Happy St. Patrick’s Day Blog Hop!

Published March 16, 2012 by admin

It’s St. Patrick’s Day and you know what that means! It’s time for a blog hop!!

As I’ve grown older St. Paddy’s day is one of those days I tend to forget about until the last minute. I was much better at it when I was younger – to the point of giving my theatre professors a heart attack by dying my hair green on St. Patrick’s Day (which was conveniently a week before my annual student review. The dye was actually wash-out) but I had a good ol’ time re-dying it until the day of the meeting and keeping them guessing.)

When I was a kid, though I loved the holiday. I’ve been addicted to Irish ghost stories and faerie tales forever. There was a certain ethereal and creepy factor in those tales that freaked me out and drew me in. I recall very vividly checking out a volume of thirteen Irish ghost stories when I was ten and discovering a whole new world.

At any rate – my Mom was always a rock star when it came to celebrating holidays when The Sibling and I were kids. We would wake up on St. Patrick’s day and find that gold chocolate coins had been scattered all over the living room- and in their haste the wily leprechauns left their little hats behind! They were so perfect and adorable it took me a while to realize that they were painted styrofoam cups that had been shrunk in the oven. Even after I knew it was still a cute gesture and I loved seeing The (younger) Sibling go absolutely bonkers because the house had been infested by leprechauns right under our noses!

You know what else I love about St. Patrick’s Day and the Irish? (Snerk – all answers on a postcard…can’t tell I’m writing this late at night can you?) Seriously, I love limericks. They’re silly, sometimes dirty, and always fun.

And now let’s give away some stuff.

My contest:

I will choose one winner from all comments I receive on this post and they will get a PDF e-book title of mine of their choice – either Mooner or The Other Man, depending on their taste.

Now for the fun part. To be entered all you have to do is comment. That’s it. Just leave a comment and say something festive to keep with the theme. What’s your favorite green thing to wear? Do you have any cute memories of St. Paddy’s day as a kid? Do you exact any bizarre revenge on friends and coworkers if they don’t wear green?

BUT…if you write me a limerick you will get DOUBLE ENTRY! Those who are familiar with my penchant for dumb poetry know what to do. So far my publications have dealt with vampires, lumberjacks, relationship tension, reincarnation, and rock music. If you want the double entry write me a limerick that deals with any of those themes – I’m keeping it easy this time (if you don’t believe me last time I made people write me Valentines’ poetry with lumberjack vocabulary. Trust me you get off easy.) You could always do something like…

There was a  young emo vamp

Who hooked up with a rock n’ roll tramp

She said he was bland

and not much of  a man

so he joined a lumberjack camp

or something like that – it’s not my best but again it’s late.  You can  use any or all of the themes to get the double entry. Or just comment for the standard entry. I’ll feed it all through random.org and have the winner announced ASAP.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL!

The Blog Hop is giving away  TWO Grand Prizes for TWO different winners!

Grand Prize 1: Winner’s Choice of a Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet

Grand Prize 2: Winner’s Choice of a $90 Amazon or Barnes&Noble Gift Card

And for these the more blogs you comment on the more entries you get (my double entry doesn’t apply here – sorry!) So go to as many blogs in the hop as you can and rack up the entries for these goodies!

As always – please be sure to make an email available so that you can be contacted – if I don’t see an email in your info or comment then I’ll have to look you over.

“May those who love us, love us; and those who don’t love us, may God turn their hearts; and if He doesn’t turn their hearts, may he turn their ankles so we’ll know them by their limping.”

  • Such great memories you have as a youngster. My family not being Irish, the day wasn’t a big deal, Now I always make sure I cook corned beef and cabbage, look forward to it every year!

  • I normally will just wear a green shirt but I’m tempted to also paint my nails a little bit funky with, of course, green polish. 🙂
    Thank you for the giveaway.

    Happy St. Patrick’s Day.

  • BWAHAHA I love the poem! Sorry I’m just not quite that imaginative.

This year I have green nail polish and plan on wearing my “The Host” (by Stephenie Meyer) shirt that has a green design. That’s about all the celebrating I ever do for the holiday.

    Happy St Patty’s Day!

  • I remember my teachers always made St. Patrick’s Day fun. They taught us about the history of the holiday and gave us treats 🙂

  • Ok No laughing ..I am trying ..lol

There once was a rocker dude,
which had a temper, and was very crude.

    He chased the Ol’ Ladies,
    and pinched their behinds,
while blurting out many pickup lines.

    Happy St Pattys Day !!

  • Wow, love reading about your memories ^.^ Such a cute way to celebrate.

    Limerick? Okay…ahem:

    There once was a man
    in a rock’n roll van
    He stank of cod
    which fouled his blood
so the vampire fled to his clan

    Love making these ^.^

  • I honestly don’t do anything special for St. Patrick’s Day. When I was little I remembering searching for four-leaf clovers but never found any. Yeah, I’m kind of boring and don’t even have a limerick to offer you.

    But thanks for the giveaway!

  • HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!!!

My favorite green thing to wear is my green t-shirt. I’m wearing it right now…and it has Kermit the Frog on it, and underneath that, it says “Keep It Green” lol 😛 It’s my favorite color…and so comfortable. Before this, it used to be a green t-shirt…I’m not jealous, I’m Irish! (and I’m not Irish…i just loved the green color of that shirt…since green is my favorite color!) lol 😛

Thank you for your generosity, and for participating in this blog hop! 🙂

  • Okay here we go!
There once was a an Irish vamp named Brock
Who’s heart was as hard as a rock
    he met a young witch
    that made his @#%$ twitch
Now his hard heart goes tick tock!

  • I guess my fave green things to wear are my St. Patrick’s socks. I have a few different pairs. The holiday reminds me of my grandfather, he always loved all the “Kiss Me I’m Irish” merchandise.

  • St. Patrick’s Day is a National Holiday at my house. We get ready for the parade at 7 which starts at 10. Then we go to the in laws and eat, eat, eat. Play games with the kiddos and eat some more. Some members exchange gifts. Then it is off to the pub crawl. Fun times for everyone.
